Abby Butler & Jim Davies
Abby’s passion for music began at an early age listening to her grandfather’s and father’s old vinyls. Both were musicians themselves and by age 12 Abby was a budding guitarist and singer. She spent her teens playing her favourite songs as well as some of her own around the pubs and clubs in North Wales. Honing her craft as a performer and musician.
Abby then had the amazing opportunity to do some travelling around Asia. After settling in Vietnam she formed her own function band comprising of musicians from all over the world bringing many different musical influences to the table. It was during this time that Abby grew with confidence as a guitarist and singer, switching to the electric guitar she learnt how to play rhythm in a Ska style and developed as a musician greatly. She began playing more percussion and becoming interested in learning the bass guitar.
After returning to the UK following some years Abby then joined a band playing bass guitar called Hourglass. After touring the UK playing main stage slots at festivals, performing live on BBC radio and releasing music she decided it was to time to form her own band.
Abby then spent four months with Jim her partner working as a Country music duo on a cruise ship. This was a brilliant way to learn another craft of performing and style of music. Abby learnt how to play bass guitar and sing in a Country style. She was based on a ship that sailed from Texas so the guests had a high standard of Country and Abby never disappointed.
Currently Abby is the lead singer and bass guitarist for Bau Cat, a band she formed with her partner and fellow franchisee of the North East Wales territory for the Rock Project, Jim Davies.
Bau Cat are just a year old and recently played Glastonbury as well as having their latest single on the A-list category for BBC Wales. They tour the UK and are currently releasing music regularly, Abby is a professional musician with years of experience performing all kinds of styles and genres in all sorts of varieties.
Abby began working as an assistant manager and bass tutor in The Rock Project in Denbigh which she has enjoyed thoroughly. So much so that Abby and her partner Jim have decided to open their own rock project schools in their local area. Abby loves teaching music and passing on all that she’s learnt from being a musician, she can’t wait to help and teach all the wonderful young musicians we have here.
