Basildon Franchisee, Chris Ward

Chris Ward

When performing with other musicians, it is hard to think of anything that makes you feel so good: you are in this magical world that non-musicians can’t imagine or experience.

Chris was born into a world of music, As the son of musicians, he was performing on stage from the age of 4. From 7 years old he was singing in the local church choir (and the Westminster Abbey Special Choir). He was also learning to play the piano and drums. By 13 years old, he was the church organist and the school pianist (the music teacher couldn’t play piano).

As the years rolled by he decided to go to University, as a mature student, to formally study for a degree in Music (and German: uses the same part of the brain incidentally).

Since then Chris has worked both privately and in schools teaching classical, jazz and pop piano as well as theory, GCSE and International Baccalaureate. He is also an examiner for RSL Awards (Rockschool) and IB.

With many years gigging experience on the corporate and wedding circuit: Chris plays all styles of music: Rock, Funk, Musicals, jazz, Abba, Motown, current day pop. He has performed around the UK and abroad: many top class venues as well as local village halls. On his musical journey he has accompanied well-known artists (Chubby Checker, Samantha Fox, Arg , Anthony Costa and Simon Webbe from Blue).

In 2015, Chris was awarded a ‘Jack Petchey’ Leaders Award after nominations from school colleagues for his dedication and guidance to the instrumental students.

Chris says:.. As a child, I pretty much only excelled in music, but my knowledge and ability gave me the opportunity to do what I love for a living.

The Rock Project is my chance to carry on passing on the pleasure of music-making to the next generation/s.

The Rock Project is the UK & Ireland's premier school for children's contemporary music tuition. We offer group lessons in electric guitar, bass guitar, drums and vocals and the opportunity for young people aged 7-18 years old to put their musical skills into practice by performing regularly each week as part of a band.
